Who should receive dermal imaging?
The following patients should have dermal imaging:
o Patients with a family history of melanoma
o Patients previously diagnosed with melanoma
o Patients with atypical or abnormal moles
o Patients with 50 or more moles
o Patients with extensive sun exposure
Why should I have dermal imaging?
Dermal imaging can lead to early detection of skin cancers. This technique establishes a skin surface baseline for physicians to more carefully track changes on the skin surface. This results in fewer biopsies, less cost, and less invasive treatment course for the patient. The ability to compare images over periods of time is a tremendous advantage for providers specializing in the care of skin lesions.
What should I expect during a dermal imaging session?
Dermal imaging sessions take 30-45 minutes and are administered in your dermatologist’s office. A nurse will help you change into a robe. Approximately 40 images will be recorded focusing on areas recommended by your physician.
After the session the images will be processed and supplied to your physician to be included in your medical record. You may also request a copy of images for your records. Before releasing images directly to patients, for confidentiality purposes, we require that you sign a medical information release form.
How much does a dermal imaging session cost?
One session costs $325 and full payment is expected at the time of service in the form of cash, personal check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.
